Dot1x-configuration for Windows

To make use of the dot1x authentication through the wired Campusnet network, you will have to configure your computer using these steps. Please make sure to follow all the directions carefully.

Enabling Wired AutoConfig

To make use of the wired 802.1x authentication, you will have to first enable Wired AutoConfig.

  • Use the search tool to look for "Services" or "Services.msc" and open the application.

  • Look for "Wired AutoConfig" in the Services screen.

  • Use your right mouse button to click on Wired Autoconfig and choose "Properties".
  • Select the Startup type "automatic" and restart your computer. Alternatively, you can select "Manual" and then click the "Start" button found underneath "Service Status".

 

Configure the local LAN-connection to use 802.1x authentication

  1. Go to the Network and Sharing Center: right-click the network icon on your taskbar. Select "Open Network and Sharing Center".

  1. If the cable is already connected, click your wired connection. If not: go to step 4.

  1. Click "Properties" and continue to step 6.

  1. If your cable is not yet connected, select "Change adapter settings".

  1. Right-click your LAN/ethernet connection and choose "Properties"

  1. In the window that opens, go to the tab "Authentication" and tick on the option "Enable IEEE 802.1x authentication". Click "settings"

  1. In the new window, complete the following data:
  • Connect to these servers: radius.kuleuven.be
  • Trusted base certificate instance: USERTrust RSA Certification Authority.

  1. Click "Configure" next to the Authentification Method EAP-MSCHAP v2. Make sure that the option to Automatically use the Windows logon name and password is not selected.

  1. Close the window and return to the screen seen in step 6. Click Additional Settings.

  1. Select User authentication as authentication mode.

  1. Now close all open windows and connect using the cable in your residence. If you had already connected the cable, disconnect it for an moment and plug it back in. If the configuration was successful, a logon prompt will appear.

Use these credentials to log on:

  • user name: your KU Leuven username, followed by @kuleuven.be . for example: s0178508@kuleuven.be, r0000000@kuleuven.be, u0000000@kuleuven.be, ...)
  • password: your KU Leuven password
